The 3 C's are...............................................>
DON'T
CRITICIZE
CONDEMN
OR
COMPLAIN
Easier said than done.... LOL
I first read about the 3 C's in a book entitled
" HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE " by Dale Carnegie -----AWESOME (if you haven't read it)..but most of you probably have! (I need to re-read it in 2008 :)
I actually incorporated parts of this book into a Nurse-Refresher class I taught at a local community college back in the early 1990's. It was a 12 week program for RN's returning to the field after years off for personal reasons or to raise children, etc... I only spent ONE day in lecture and the rest was supervised hands-on care at a local hospital.
I started off the first day covering the 3 C's !
Here's How I applied them to caring for clients - (and I still do... only the setting is not in a Hospital, but in a home or office:)
Don't Criticize, instead....make a heartfelt suggestion and be prepared to show the benefits to the other person!
PEOPLE DON'T CARE HOW MUCH YOU KNOW... UNTIL THEY KNOW HOW MUCH YOU CARE :)
Relationships are important in every business...even health-care- how can you influence a person/patient to change unless they know you are a concerned caregiver who:
takes time with them one on one,
listens to their problems,
shows empathy and kindness,
asks questions, seeks clarification,
and then presents the facts to both them (and significant others who may be of influence) and suggests change.
Don't Condemn, instead provide care and service remembering, you are not the judge or jury, but there to serve!
THE COLOR OF BLOOD IS RED FOR EVERY PERSON...WE ALL BLEED RED WHEN INJURED OR HURT :)
If you've chosen a service industry profession involving people, there will be those that cross your path that conflict with your belief system- act professionally and either ask to be removed from the case, or do your JOB! (Remembering what my Mom always said.....It's easy to love the lovable....it's the ones who are not so lovable that really need acts of kindness!).
Don't Complain, Your foes will delight in it :) and in the realm of things, it's probably insignificant - so why waste energy!
EVERYTHING IS A TEMPORARY SITUATION :)
Work is Tough, Problems are Bothersome, People's idiosyncrasies can be annoying. But Today, at this very minute you are reading this..... someone, somewhere, is taking their last breath in this life on earth!
Be thankful for work, problems, overlook pet peeves you have about family members- look at what bothers you for the moment and remember this is someone else's LAST MOMENT.
Yes, easier said than done! But this book has changed how I look at things.....Now I'm off to tidy up a LIVED IN house with signs of LIFE.... like socks laying around that I didn't put there... LOL... how wonderful!!!

Blessings of Health to Your Families Too!
May you prosper :)
Sincerely,
Grace Safrin
