The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore will draw many more visitors than usual starting at NOON this Friday, May 18th, 2008 when scientists, students, volunteers, nature lovers and spectators alike will gather for 24 hours to partake in the BioBlitz - this being only the 3rd event of it's kind ever, in our entire country!
The Purpose of the BioBlitz basically is to document every Living Plant and Animal Species in our local National Park along the Lake Michigan Shoreline and adjacent Forest preserve lands in Northwest Indiana!
Our own local Indiana Dunes was selected out of many possible choices of National Parks nationwide by the co-sponsors National Geographic.
The event is FREE to attend and 'base camp' is at West Beach -> click here for answers to FAQ's
Previous BioBlitz events have seen thousands of species identified and counted!

Jeff and Grace,
Cool post; Bioblitz is a great function to partake in and enjoy from reading your post.
Grace, What an interesting event. I would have loved to attend if I were closer!
Hi Tom, We have a busy weekend scheduled already, planning to try and get there to see the activities - hope the rain in the forecast holds off today for the event :) thanks for stopping by!
Hi Carole, Yes it is really well planned out with even the University of Chicago sending a team of scientists out to catalog species found! It's awesome exposure for one of our areas most beautiful attractions of nature! appreciate your comments.
Sincerley,
Grace

Jeff and Grace I've heard Indiana Dunes are famous due to their uniqueness on a lakeshore - not an ocean. Is that so? Karen
