Last week Jeff & I had a few errands to run at Lighthouse Place Premium Outlet Mall in Michigan City, Indiana .
We had just left our office in Valpo and it was already dinner time (so we were hungry). One of our clients who is a manager of one of the stores at the mall suggested a place for us located just a few blocks from the outlet mall, on the way there, we talked to another client who also raved about this restaurant and it's food, later on Facebook->more friends of ours raved!
Looks like many NW Indiana folks think this->
We were very fortunate to have the owner (Moe) as our waiter for our first dining experience here!
The sampler dinners allow you to pick 4 cold and 4 hot dishes to share!
We chose :)
- Sahara’s Famous Dates : Feta cheese stuffed dates and pomegranate reduction
- Cucumber Napoleon : Fresh cucumber slices topped with hummus and feta
- Greek Isle Salad : Romaine, tomato, cucumber, sumac onions topped w/gyro & feta with red wine vinegar
- Cheese Plate : Sided with Mediterranean olives & pickles. Perfect starter
and then came :)
- Chicken Shawarma : Marinated chicken topped with sumac onions served on a bed of hummus
- Sahara’s Shrimp & Crab Cake:Handmade & filled w/original spices, exotic peppers top w/lemon dill aioli
-
Grape Leaves (Warak Dawali)Seasoned rice & beef hand rolled in grape leaves sided w/homemade yogurt
- Falafel : Vegetable bean patties deep fried and served with tahini
The service was superb, the atmosphere musical, the food fresh and delicious and we got a sampling of what we are going back for next time :)
Can't wait to go back to the Sahara Restaurant to try more Mediterranean Cuisine again !

Grace & Jeff....well you have posted about a neat restaurant in that area; usually, those spice choices dictate a NO to me, but some of the items sounded like 'to try's'. Michigan city always made me laugh when living or visiting in the area of IN. & IL. --could not grasp why a city would be named MI. Then i found out some of our City names. What a small world in which we live.
Have a great week.

Hi Barb & Sal - you do know NWI - and yes it is a small world - stop by and try Sahar's if you visit this way again!

grace
