Every year, Valparaiso publishes the designated times of day for children to partake in Trick or Treat on Halloween - This year Monday, October 31st, 2011 that time frame is between 5:30 pm and 7 :30 pm !
Valpo even has a special designated date and time for children to trick or treat downtown which is Friday, October 28th from 4 to 6pm at Central Park Plaza in downtown Valparaiso, IN
Courtesy of the Valpo PD here are some safety tips for you & your children:
The following safety tips will help make your Halloween Holiday safe and fun:
- Walk, don’t run from house to house.
- Stay on sidewalks.
- Stop and look both ways before crossing the street.
- Cross the street at intersections, not between parked cars.
- Stay in familiar neighborhoods.
- Carry a flashlight and wear bright clothing.
- Make sure costumes do not drag on the ground.
- Avoid wearing masks while walking from house to house.
- Safer to be in groups when walking and trick or treating.
- Approach only houses that have lights on.
- Wear clothing with reflective markings or tape.
- Wear costumes that don’t restrict your sight.
- Wait to eat candy after you get home.
- Parents inspect all candy after returning home. Any candy opened should not be eaten.
- Carry a cellular phone and immediately report any suspicious activity to police.
If you are out driving on Halloween, please slow down and use extra caution during trick-or-treat hours!

Hi Jeanean - Yes this is right around the corner - not decorating this year ( other than the fall wreath on the door and the scarcrow in the front landsape bed :) empty nesters for the 1st time so no girls at home to carve pumpkins :(
we will enjoy the little ones who come to trick or treat though!
